Bodies, Borders & Boundaries | Illegal?

After a horrible raid by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) in New Bedford, Massachusetts, we talked with our colleagues at the Center to Support Immigrant Organizing (CSIO). One of the things that they found shocking was that folks within the nonprofit sector, from a variety of political perspectives said to them, “This is horrible how people were treated, but you know they were illegal.” Our colleagues at CSIO asked us, "How can we be comfortable referring to people as illegal?" Which instantly gave birth to Bodies Borders and Boundaries.

In this project we are asking that question, how it is that people can imagine others as illegal? We ultimately want to figure out how do we intervene in this particular description of particular bodies.

To get a flavor of how this project is moving along, please read our notes.
