Action Lab

The Action Lab is, in many ways, a pop-up version of the Design Studio itself. It is a space where participants get a hands-on chance to learn about and generate cultural tactics that support their organizing strategies. It includes both linear and nonlinear design tools to help participants design social interventions and creative actions.

Participants get to:

  • See examples of cultural tactics used in social interventions around the world

  • Learn DS4SI’s methodology for exploring cultural context, choosing relevant cultural symbols and generating ideas that build on these symbols to create powerful social interventions

  • Share ideas for new cultural tactics and how they can support traditional organizing strategies

If you are interested in bringing the Action Lab to your organization or convening, contact us at actionlab [at] ds4si.org.

Many thanks to The Praxis Project for hosting the first ever Action Lab at their Roots & Remedies Conference and to our tireless Action Lab design intern, Ayako Maruyama.
